Rock Island County Forest Preserve, 19406 Loud Thunder Rd. Illinois City, IL 61259 will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12pm on May 11, 2018 to unveil ADA-accessible renovations.
Last fall, Rock Island County Forest Preserve District partnered with five local building trades and Black Hawk College students to help bring accessibility to Loud Thunder Forest Preserve and Illiniwek Forest Preserve.
On May 11, Loud Thunder would like to unveil the first of the renovations which accommodate persons with disabilities. Students in the college’s Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) will work alongside journeyman from the following building trades to build new park features to accommodate persons with disabilities.
New projects to be unveiled include a new ADA-accessible parking lot ramp and sidewalk to the Martin/Parchert Picnic Pavilion and a bathroom remodel to make the restroom facility ADA-accessible. Loud Thunder is the largest of the Rock Island County forest preserves at 1,621 acres. One of the main attractions at Loud Thunder is Lake George, a 167-acres man-made lake with depths up to 55 feet and stocked with many varieties of fish.
