Job Description
Job Title: Institutional Research Analyst

Status: Exempt, 12 month schedule

Reports to: VP of Academic Affairs and Provost

Overview: The Institutional Research Analyst is a key partner in the Office of Academic Affairs. This position is responsible for generating data and helping others to understand metrics to assist college leaders as they make well informed decisions that advance student learning, allocate resources effectively, and meet the demands of external agents ranging from the Board of Trustees to the U.S. Department of Education.

Job Duties: 
  1. Access, analyze, and summarize data for reports required by external agents, such as the federal department of education, the State of Illinois, accrediting agencies, IPEDS, and others.
  2. Gather, access, analyze, refine, and summarize data required by the college’s academic administration for resource allocation, program assessment and institutional improvement.
  3. Select student workers and supervise the work products and outcomes of student employees. Communicate college and department expectations, provide constructive feedback, assign work, and address performance issues.
  4. Ensure institutional research activities align with and support the college’s strategic plan, institutional effectiveness goals, and accreditation requirements. Facilitate quality improvement to enhance understanding, improve data collection and reporting, and promote data driven decision-making.
  5. Collaborate with other campus community members on projects and/or shared expertise as needed.
  6. Continually seek and share new and best practices in institutional research. Develop professional skills through webinars, conferences, and other development opportunities.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and Access.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to connect with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with user groups to understand needs and assist groups in understanding our research.
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential and sensitive information, and the ability to execute good decision-making regarding information dissemination.
  • Proven ability to work independently with little direction as well as the desire to manage, develop, and mentor student staff.
  • Demonstrated organizational ability resulting in success with managing multiple tasks/activities/programs simultaneously. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and balance tight timelines with high accuracy of information.

Education & Experience: B.A. required, M.A. strongly preferred. 4 or more years of experience in institutional research data management and/or analysis required. Experience in a higher education setting and/or expertise with Ellucian Colleague highly preferred. 

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 15 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must possess finger and hand dexterity for using a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.

Special Requirements: As key personnel representing the college to the community, this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability and willingness to relate to a diverse audience, and the ability to model the mission and high standard of behavior of Augustana College.
