River City Tire got its start in 1987 on Locust St. in Davenport, Iowa. Owned by Charles Jones and his son, Chet, the first location was a one-bay operation with a wholesale route. Chet was in charge of the retail business while Charles “Charley” ran the wholesale route and focused on delivering tires to nearby communities with the charm of a small, upcoming, family business. Wife and mother, Patricia “Jane” Jones was also involved in the business and operated as a public relations specialist.
Significant growth in the early years led to River City Tire (RCT) moving to new location across the street in 1989, the shop expanded to a two-bay operation and a larger wholesale route. In this time, daughter Denny and brother “Jonesy” also joined the family business and RCT hired two additional technicians. Daughter Jackie joined the team in 1993 and, with the business continuing to grow, a move was moved to the current location at 312 East 35th St. in Davenport. The present building began as a five-bay shop, but has since expanded to a 13-bay operation, currently employing seven technicians. Current owners and operators Chet Jones and Jackie Staron pride themselves on the growth and integrity of River City Tire & Automotive and are constantly looking to develop the retail and commercial aspects of the business.
