DAVENPORT, Illinois – Family Resources’ anti-human trafficking program Braking Traffik will host several events throughout January for Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Events include presentations of the documentary Any Kid Anywhere, community awareness events and delivery of baked goods to law enforcement agencies by staff.

Human trafficking affects nearly 21 million people worldwide. Each year 17,000 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States for labor and sexual exploitation. Braking Traffik offers education and training to area agencies in addition to providing direct services to trafficking survivors through crisis response, safety planning and advocacy.

“Human Trafficking Awareness month is a time to rally our communities to take steps to make change in the lives of those who have been and are currently being trafficked,” said Ashley Odom, Director of Survivor Services. “This awareness month not only brings attention to this form of modern day slavery but also familiarizes community members with signs and how to take the first steps toward ending human trafficking.”
