National Apprenticeship Week: November 12-18, 2018

COUNTRYSIDE, IL – The Indiana, Illinois, Iowa Foundation for Fair Contracting is a labor-management organization dedicated to raising standards in the construction industry. This week marks National Apprenticeship Week, a week of significance in construction because apprenticeship programs play an important role in strengthening our economy and helping businesses find skilled workers. The III FFC is proud of the public bodies showcasing their support for national apprenticeship programs by issuing proclamations that honor National Apprenticeship Week. Public bodies such as the Cities of Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Silvis, South Beloit, Machesney Park and the Village of Rockton issued proclamations in support of National Apprenticeship Week.

Apprenticeship programs have played a significant role in our nation’s history over the last eighty years when Congress implemented the National Apprenticeship Act to ensure apprenticeship programs meet state and federal standards to be certified. Construction is the fastest-growing industry in Illinois. Over the next decade, construction is projected to grow at twice the pace of the overall state economy. As such, Illinois needs apprenticeship programs to train skilled workers to fix our roads and bridges.
