QC residents invited to be part of Putnam’s
newest exhibit, RACE: Are We So Different?

Visitors asked to share their ancestry on Jan. 18 and 19 to receive free admission pass
DAVENPORT, Iowa (Jan. 8, 2018) — The Putnam Museum & Science Center is calling for the public to become part of its newest exhibit RACE: Are We So Different? opening soon.
On Jan. 18 and 19, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Putnam will host an open house to gather information for the RACE exhibit Ancestry World Map. Visitors are invited to bring their ancestry results including those from, 23andMe or prior researched ancestry data. Participants’ strongest heritage connections will be added to a large-scale world map in the museum’s grand lobby.
Participants in the two-day open house will receive a free pass they may use to return to the RACE exhibit, which opens to the public on Jan. 26. The traveling exhibit aims to help visitors of all ages better understand the origins and manifestations of race in everyday life by investigating race and challenging its misconceptions through the framework of science.
The Ancestry World Map will trace locals’ ancestries and show the vast, diverse heritages in the community. Participants will complete forms stating their strongest connections and the source of that data. Open house visitors can also participate in a photo, if they wish, which will be placed on the map along with their connections.
Once completed, portions of this project will be maintained in the Putnam's permanent archive. For more information on participating in the Ancestry World Map project or the RACE exhibit, please visit
