Sick of winter weather? Find relief with all new summer camps at the Putnam!

DAVENPORT (April 16, 2018) — Registration is now open for Putnam Museum & Science Center full and half day summer camps.
These great summer camp programs are available for youth entering kindergarten through Grade 8. Before- and after-care is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for full-day weekly camps only.
“This year, we sent out a survey and asked parents what themes or topics their child would enjoy best,” said Octavia Houtekier-Boyd, vice president of education at the Putnam Museum. “Based on their input, we have created all new parent-approved themes and camps!”
New summer camps include, Jr. Oceanographers, Artiste de Voyage, Survival: Camp Z and Flight Academy. Returning favorites include Harry Potter camp, which is expected to sell out soon as it did last year. The full list of summer camps includes:
Weeklong full-day camps
  •         Harry Potter | June 18-22, 9a.m.-3p.m.| Grades 3-5 | Complete your wizard apprenticeship by completing Quidditch training and attending classes about potions, charms and more, all while you discover the science secrets behind the magic! Spells & Potions Fee: $10
  •         Artiste de Voyage | June 25-29, 9a.m.-3p.m. | Grades 4-6 | Examine the STEM processes that makes art possible while exploring the different cultures of the world through the depth of their history, legacy and incredible works of art! Artist fee: $8
  •         Flight Academy | July 9-13, 9a.m.-3p.m. | Grades 4-6 | Campers will “fly” alongside the aviation experts of the world, taking quick detours to examine the history of flight as they follow in the footsteps of the Wright brothers and Leonardo da Vinci by creating extraordinary flying machines! Materials fee: $5
  •         Survival: Camp Z | July 30-Aug. 3, 9a.m.-3p.m. | Grades 3-5 | Gather with other survivalists who hope to hone their awareness and observational skills, while learning wilderness survival tips about navigation, animal tracking and shelter building.
Two-day camp
  •         Young Meteorologists | July 2 & 3, 9a.m.-3p.m. | Grades 3&4 | Do you have a passion for meteorology? Join us and other campers as we explore the skies together.
Weeklong half-day camps
  •         Jr. Oceanographers* | June 4-8, 9a.m.-noon | Grades K-2 | How do animals survive in the deep sea? Do fish have a sense of smell? Investigate these questions and more as you learn about the creatures in the ocean and discover how our ocean works.
  •         Code & Go!* | June 11-15, 9a.m.-noon | Grades K-2 | Campers will have fun as they learn to “play” with robots and learn a little about coding and programming along the way.
  •         Code, Create, Animate!** | June 11-15, 1-4p.m. | Grades 3-5 | Students will learn basic coding for our resident robots and learn how to code an interactive story or create a game using SCRATCH!
  •         Magic Tree House* | July 16-20, 9a.m.-noon | Grades K-2 | Like Jack and Annie, young campers enter the Magic Tree House® for exciting adventures to an observatory, a space station and the Moon.
  •         Anyone Can Cook!** | July 16-20, 1-4p.m. | Grades 2&3 | Join us to sharpen your culinary skills, learn some new recipes and cook up some fun!  Local chefs have been invited to join us this week. Market fee: $5
Weeklong full-day camps are $175 per child, $165 for members; two-day full-day camps are $75 and weeklong half-day camps are $90, $80 for members. Additional material costs may apply.
