SUMMARY:Defense & Manufacturing Industry 4.0 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Because collaboration is the key to Industry 4.0 success\, the Quad Cities Chamber is proud to welcome three international manufacturing experts to lead a special Industry 4.0 event at the Rock Island Arsenal's Joint Manufacturing Technology Center as part of Manufacturing Month. \n\n \n\nAlso known as the start of the fourth Industrial Revolution\, Industry 4.0 is the next phase in the digitization of the manufacturing sector.  It is driven by the integration of multiple new technologies like data analytics\, robotics\, 3-D printing\, and computational power within a factory system.\n\n \n\nNewly installed commanding officer Col. Kenneth W. Letcher will kick the day off with a special address regarding JMTC's mission and future plans\, including how to engage with contracting opportunities at the Rock Island Arsenal. The morning session will also feature companies successfully embedding Industry 4.0 technology\, including an address by HP's Tim Heller\, Director\, 3D Printing\, Americas.  Attendees will also get the latest on the Quad Cities Manufacturing Innovation Hub's technology playbooks.  \n\n \n\nAfter lunch attendees will choose to join one of three small-group work sessions facilitated by international manufacturing experts Jack Harris\, Steve Ray\, and Dan Nagy from Intelligent Manufacturing Systems.  \n\n \n\nDuring the sessions companies and their peers will share key technical challenges and \n\nParticipants in the workshop will have the opportunity to:\n\n	Share knowledge and best practices with peers\n	Identify common priority problems businesses are facing\n	Hear about key barriers and opportunities addressing problems\n	Leverage technology and R&D results\n	Identify gaps in technology maturity that can be addressed in a pre-competitive fashion with peers   strengthening the industry in our region and throughout the country\n	Learn about the key benefits of using solutions in specific targeted technology areas: data analytics & the industrial Internet of Things\, additive manufacturing\, advanced robotics\n	Identify synergies and potential collaborations with other manufacturers who share a similar perspective to maximize mutual benefits\n\n The end goal of the workshop is for participants to have identified some specific actions   either alone or in collaboration with their peers   that allow them to improve their product and operation.\n\n \n\nAbout Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (www.ims.org)\n\nIMS is an industry-led\, international business innovation and research and development (R&D) program established to develop the next generation of manufacturing and processing technologies through multi-lateral collaboration. IMS is also a premier sponsor of the World Manufacturing Forum where high-level government officials and industry executives discuss issues and solutions to challenges in manufacturing.\n\n\n\nAbout our experts\n\nAs a retired Rockwell Collins engineering and technology executive\, Jack Harris currently serves as the U.S. Head of Delegation for the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems international manufacturing program\, co-chairs the Advanced Manufacturing Committee for the Aerospace States Association and leads an international consortium for product data standards.  Immediately after retiring\, he launched the Iowa Innovation Corporation for the state of Iowa\, which focuses on innovation based growth of Bio\, IT and Advanced Manufacturing companies.  He holds an AAS and BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Engineering Management.\n\n \n\nSteve Ray serves as the Project Development Coach for the U.S. Region within the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Program. He is also a Distinguished Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley\, where he researches semantics\, information inter-operability and standards in manufacturing\, the smart electrical grid\, and the Internet of Things. Formerly\, he spent 27 years initiating and leading manufacturing R&D projects at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg\, Maryland. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and his Bachelor's in Physics from Bristol University in England.\n\n\n\nAs Managing Director of the Inter-Regional Secretariat of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems\, Dan Nagy is currently responsible for oversight of activities related to the IMS international program including general management\, strategy\, marketing\, finance\, project portfolio\, and outreach activities. Mr. Nagy\, who has 16 years of international experience with IMS\, assists in the planning\, program\, and speaker search activities for IMS manufacturing research workshops\, the World Manufacturing Forum and other events held in various countries. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Lycoming College\, a Master's of Business Administration degree from Baker University\, and holds certification in medical laboratory technology and others. He sits on the boards of IMS\, NACFAM\, and is a member of the Aerospace States Association.
