DESCRIPTION:The Bettendorf Community School District will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the newly constructed Grant Wood Elementary School on Tuesday\, August 21 at 3 pm. The school is located at 1423 Hillsdale Dr. Bettendorf\, IA 52722\n\n \n\nNew Grant Wood Elementary School\n\nThe new 62\,500 SF\, $13.7M building is designed as a 3-section school replacing the old 37\,000 SF school built in 1960. \n\n \n\nThe new prekindergarten through 5th grade elementary school provides much-needed improvements in learning areas for all students. Classrooms are significantly larger\, breakout areas are located throughout the building\, and large areas have been designed for small group work as well as adult learning.  The glass spine of the building features a 21st-century conference area designed as a multipurpose space with natural light as well as a commons area\, learning stairs\, and library.\n\n \n\nThe combined cafeteria/gymnasium in the old school created conflicts with scheduling and limited community use. The new Grant Wood has a separate cafeteria and gym. The gym\, nearly twice as large as the old one\, not only expands the PE program\, but also welcomes community recreation programs.\n\n \n\nThe project was funded through Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL)\, SAVE (Secure an Advanced Vision for Education) Fund (State Sales/Use Tax for School Infrastructure) and the district's general fund. The construction team included Legat Architects\, Structural Engineer   IMEG\, Foodservice - Clevenger Associates\, Construction Manager - Estes Construction\, MEP Engineer - RTM Engineering Consultants\, Civil Engineer - McClure Engineering Associates.
