SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting - River Bend Foodbank Davenport Community Food Pantry
DESCRIPTION:River Bend Foodbank will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Davenport Community Food Pantry at 10 a.m. Thursday\, September 14th at the pantry\, which is located inside the JB Young Opportunity Center\, 1702 N. Main St. Davenport\, IA 52803.\n\n \n\nThe Davenport Community Food Pantry will provide a food safety net for individuals and families who are struggling with food insecurity in Davenport. In the 22 counties that River Bend Foodbank serves there are 119\,570 people missing 21.4 million meals each year. This pantry will be a key part of the overall effort to reach that goal\, by expanding distribution capacity in Scott County and being open to the entire community. The pantry will have open hours during evenings and weekends\, to serve individuals who are working during the day.\n\n \n\n"We've doubled meal distribution in Scott County from 1 to 2 million meals per year\," said Michael Miller\, President & CEO of River Bend Foodbank. "Unfortunately\, we need to double again to meet the entire need. We're very excited about this new pantry open evenings and weekends in the center of an area of need\, and we're hoping its presence enables other pantries to be open more hours\, serve more people\, and distribute more food. Thank you to Davenport Community Schools\, the Davenport Education Association\, and St. Paul Church for their efforts in this partnership."\n\n \n\nThe pantry will distribute food on Tuesdays\, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays\, from 8:30 11:30 a.m.\n\n \n\nIndividuals in need of food assistance may visit riverbendfoodbank.org or call 563-345-6490 for assistance.\n\n \n\nAbout River Bend Foodbank\n\nThe Foodbank is the largest hunger relief organization in the Quad Cities and surrounding communities\, having distributed over 12 million meals in FY2017 to hungry people in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
