Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: August 2023

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach applied voice lessons and courses in choral music education. Actively participate in recruiting and retaining students to support a successful voice studio and music education cohort. Additional teaching assignments may include vocal techniques for music education majors, vocal literature, vocal pedagogy, or other courses based on qualifications and experience.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in vocal performance, vocal pedagogy, or music education, plus 30 additional graduate hours beyond the master's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in vocal performance, vocal pedagogy, or music education. Soprano or mezzo-soprano preferred; all voice types considered. Demonstrated performance experience as a solo artist in recital, chamber, oratorio, and operatic literature. Expertise to teach and develop courses in choral music education. Demonstrated experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and experiences at the university level. Functional piano skills.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

Student Resources

There are more than 200 student organizations at Western that provide social, academic, recreation, sports, service, and many other opportunities for students to grow and learn, develop leadership skills, and much more. Numerous concerts, lectures, films, dance performances, cultural events and more are presented and performed each year, along with numerous major theatrical and dance productions and studio shows, and a variety of service-oriented projects and activities, all in a diverse and inclusive campus environment.
