RESPONSIBILITIES: Employees at this level perform all payroll specialist duties as well as general balancing of payroll totals. This position processes both the semi-monthly and student payrolls, beginning with analyzing and coding of payroll data through completion of the payroll and all internal and external reports. This position inspects all payroll systems output in order to detect errors and determine out-of-balance conditions. Duties include analyzing time cards for completion and accuracy in accordance with federal regulations and internal policies and prepares payroll checks and direct deposits for distribution to employees. This position serves as a resource person on inquiries from all staff and students.

APPOINTMENT: As soon as possible

HOURLY WAGE: $18.79 - $20.67 (anticipated starting salary $18.79)

This position is represented by AFSCME Local 417.

Job Requirements:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:

A. College coursework in accounting, business administration, finance, economics, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:

*30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)

*Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)

*90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)

*Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

B. Work experience performing payroll duties requiring knowledge of standard practices used in the preparation, distribution, and maintenance of payrolls and payroll records.

3. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience serving as a resource person for a wide range of payroll areas, requiring in-depth knowledge of specialized areas.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). The degree must be conferred at the time of application.
