About Us
SAL Community Services (SAL) provides support, advocacy, and learning for communities - from childhood to adulthood. SAL has a long-standing commitment to strengthening children, families, and individuals in eastern Iowa and western Illinois to build and enhance thriving communities.
SAL operates seven diverse programs in early care & education, crisis assistance, child care referrals, and technical assistance, training & development for early care educators, including the following:
•Skip-a-Long Childhood Centers provide early care and education services to children ages 6 weeks to 12 years at five childcare centers located throughout the Quad Cities. Its campuses – located in Moline, Rock Island, Milan (2), and Davenport – each hold the highest quality ratings for their respective state and accreditation through the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs. Together with the Home Child Care Network, these centers serve more than 700 children each day from the Quad City region.
• The Home Child Care Network helps families who need non-traditional childcare hours by supporting high-quality licensed family childcare environments throughout a 12 county service area.
• The Early Head Start Child Care Partnership program offers comprehensive support services to children and their families in Skip-a-Long childcare centers and homes, as well as a home visiting program for expecting parents in Henry, Mercer, and Rock Island counties.
• The Open Door and Welcoming Center crisis assistance programs – located in Rock Island and Davenport – offer a “hand-up” to individuals and families in crisis.
• SAL Child Care Connection and Child Care Resource and Referral of Midwestern Illinois connect families across 16 Illinois counties with assistance to pay for childcare, support families seeking childcare, and provide training and technical assistance to Illinois childcare
homes and centers.
