Description
Join Partners of Scott County Watersheds for the Summer 2026 Snapshot Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Event! This is your opportunity to become a citizen scientist for the day and gather important data about the health of Scott County's watersheds. No experience is necessary, and anyone is welcome to participate! Volunteers will meet at the Regional Innovation Center in Eldridge, IA to be trained to perform simple tests in the field to measure water quality. Then, volunteers will be divided into groups and assigned to 5-7 sites in Scott County to collect data. During the Summer Snapshot, we also survey benthic macroinvertebrates (a.k.a. water bugs) in some streams. Volunteers will return to the community center at noon for a FREE swag & pizza lunch! All materials will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear clothing that can get wet and/or muddy (long pants/sleeves, waterproof shoes or rain boots, hats, sunscreen, and bug spray). This event will happen rain or shine. Please only register if you can commit to full duration of the event. If you would like to be placed in a group with people you did not register with, or if you have a preference to test chemical or biological parameters, please email allyson@nahantmarsh.org to let us know!
