Description
SAL Family and Community Services, 1221 N. Myrtle St. Davenport, IA 52804 (Inside Friendly House), will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 27 at 12pm to celebrate their new Davenport-based Open Door program office.
The Open Door crisis assistance program provides emergency assistance and resources to those experiencing a crisis. SAL Family and Community Services manages an Open Door office in Rock Island, IL and one in Peoria, IL who work with nearly 2,000 individuals in crisis each year. Each office holds an on-site food pantry, computers to assist in job searches, and Coordinators who can work with individuals to submit applications for housing, food assistance, employment, and medical benefits. Open Door serves as a "one-stop" resource to alleviate individuals needing to visit multiple offices for multiple crisis needs.
In June 2016, through a grant with the Iowa State's Attorney's office for the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), SALFCS was awarded funds to expand the Open Door program to Scott County, Iowa. This new, Davenport-based office focuses on providing emergency assistance and resources specifically to individuals and families experiencing crises who have been victims or witnesses of crime.
