Description
Two Rivers YMCA will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony to announce their new program office in Rock Island located within the Martin Luther King Center at 630 9th St. Rock Island, IL 61201. The ribbon cutting will be at 11am and the open house will be 10am to 2pm. The Y has been serving Rock Island with youth development programs since the mid-1990s. The new program administration office will serve to better support current YMCA programs and staff in Rock Island, and to be a place where community members can learn about and register for YMCA membership and programs. The Y currently serves nearly 500 youth per year in Rock Island with programs in 10 Rock Island/Milan schools: before and after school enrichment programs, Y Winners and Y Solutions. Each program meets the distinct needs of its participants - from providing safe and enriching care to elementary-age youth, to helping junior high and high school students stay in school, develop leadership skills and to plan for life beyond high school. "Having an office in Rock Island allows us to better serve current programs and participants and provides greater capacity to grow and expand services to the Rock Island community. We hope to increase our service to Rock Island and its residents in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility," said Christy Filby, Strategic Initiatives Executive / Senior Director of Youth Development. Rock Island Family YMCA program office hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
