Join BBBS for a meaningful afternoon of community service as we restore and beautify our local outdoor space. This volunteer event focuses on removing litter and ensuring trails on Sylvan Island in Moline remain safe, clean and accessible for everyone. Sylvan Island is an abandoned industrial site that covers approximately 35 acres in the Mississippi River/Sylvan Slough. The walking, running, and biking path is fairly flat with a crushed limestone surface.

Meeting Point: At the Sylvan Island parking lot at the end of 1st Avenue and 2nd Street in Moline. We will gather by the pedestrian bridge before crossing over to the island.



Parking is available in the Sylvan Gateway Park parking lot located at 101 1^st Avenue, Moline. 



Cleanup will be held rain or shine unless severe. Restrooms are located across the bridge at Sylvan Gateway Park; there are no permanent facilities on the island itself.



BBBS & the City of Moline will provide:

• Vests, gloves and grabbers


• Trash bags and bag collection


• Bottled water.

Volunteers to bring:

• Wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that is weather-appropriate


• Water bottles, hats and sunscreen (as desired)


• No pets, please.

Volunteers 14 years and under need a guardian and BBBS will sign off for High School students needing community service hours.
