Black Hawk College EMS Program earns national accreditation

Black Hawk College is proud to announce that its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Professions – Paramedic program has been awarded Continuing Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), reaffirming the program’s commitment to excellence in EMS education.

The accreditation decision, effective March 2026, was made following a comprehensive review and recommendation from the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). The program’s next evaluation is scheduled for 2031.

CAAHEP accreditation is a nationally recognized standard of quality in allied health education. Maintaining this status ensures that Black Hawk College’s EMS program continues to meet rigorous academic and clinical training standards, preparing graduates for success in the field and eligibility for professional certification.

“Maintaining CAAHEP accreditation reflects our continued commitment to delivering high-quality EMS education and upholding the standards expected of our profession,” said Tyler M. Hynes, AAS, NRP and EMS program director.

“This recognition reinforces the strength of our faculty, clinical partnerships and the dedication of our students,” Hynes said.

CAAHEP-accredited programs provide significant benefits to students and employers alike. Students gain confidence in the quality of their education and are better prepared for certification and licensure, while employers can trust that graduates possess the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to deliver high-quality patient care.

Black Hawk College’s EMS program has a long-standing reputation for excellence, combining classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experiences to prepare students for the demands of emergency medical services careers. The continued accreditation underscores the college’s ongoing investment in program quality, resources and student success.
