Two Rivers YMCA will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, January 17 at 4:30pm to celebrate the opening of their new branch – Bass Street YMCA and Sylvan Boathouse located at 1701 1st Ave. Moline, IL 61265
This world class rowing facility has been completely remodeled and now offers an express workout area with a new strength circuit and cardio fitness equipment. Group exercise and personal training is also available. Center hours are Monday through Friday 4:00 am-7:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 6:00 am-10:00 am.
The Bass Street YMCA and Sylvan Boathouse is in a prime riverfront location on 17th Street, Moline, just north of Stoney Creek Inn. A full service branch open to all Y members, the Bass Street YMCA is conveniently located for those who work, live or attend school in downtown Moline.
“The addition of YMCA workout facilities to the Sylvan Boathouse and in concert with our Income Based Membership provides even more access to health living for our community,” said CEO Mike Wennekamp. “We’re also excited to expose a wider audience to our nationally recognized rowing programs. Rowing teaches discipline and teamwork along with providing a low-impact workout suitable for all ages. Competitive rowing opportunities are available for those who want to take it beyond the recreational level.”
Members will be able to take advantage of a boutique-type atmosphere with workouts that change with the seasons. “We’ll be taking full advantage of the beautiful riverfront setting this summer. Look for new, innovative exercise programs that complement the rowing, paddle boarding, and kayaking activities currently offered,” said Amy Johnson, Senior Program Director.
Rowing and the Sylvan Boathouse became part of Two Rivers YMCA during a merger in 2010 that resulted in the start of the Y Quad Cities Rowing program. Since then, interest in rowing has continued to grow and flourish in the Quad Cities. Members of the junior rowing team have competed, and won, on the international level, and a group of dedicated volunteers introduced an adaptive rowing program.
Now, as the Bass Street YMCA and Sylvan Boathouse, this hidden gem will be even more accessible for the entire community to enjoy with expanded hours and the Y’s Income Based Membership!
