Description
The YMCA at Utica Ridge, 4885 Utica Ridge Rd. Davenport, IA 52807, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, October 9 at 4pm to celebrate increased services to people who want to live healthy –- affordably – while participating in a range of programs, from cutting edge training groups to Diabetes Prevention.
A free, community open house will take place all day. The open house will feature healthy eating demos, trainers, and small group workouts. The Y is also waiving the joining fee, and providing 2 sessions with a personal trainer for new members. There will also be membership specials throughout the QC's all day to celebrate. Youth wellness classes will also be added to serve a greater population in search of healthy living options.
As the community grows and develops further into eastern Scott County, the need to serve people from all backgrounds, especially those who need financial assistance, increases. The most recent renovations on all 3 floors of the YMCA were over $500,000 and included equipment, lighting, paint, carpet and re-purposing the central hub.
The community has been responding by joining together at the Scott County Family Y branch:
▪ 17,000 visits at Utica YMCA each month
▪ At this time last year, 16% of new members received financial assistance at Utica Y
▪ Utica hit record high of 4,020 members this summer. The Scott Co. Y has 41,000 members.
▪ The YMCA provided trainers to 37% of new members in the past month at no cost to the public to ensure access for everyone
▪ Across the country, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is currently working with Medicare and Medicaid to curb this growing national epidemic
“Men and women of all ages are participating and getting stronger, healthier and living better lives,” said Brad Martell, CEO of the Y. “We’re grateful to our donors and members for giving us the ability to serve even more people with this expansion.”
