Focusing on working adults and investing in employees provides long-term solutions for businesses and organizations in our community. There are education options for employees who are also non-traditional students, but navigating resources can be difficult. Flexibility is key for work and school schedules and non-traditional students need the ability to toggle back and forth between in person and online.
As companies increasingly update jobs with more virtual components, upskilling is a win-win for both employers and employees. Employee upskilling contributes to the community by:
Heather Bjorgan | MA, MBA, Dean of Enrollment Management at Black Hawk College
Heather Bjorgan attended University of Minnesota for a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She holds a Master of Arts in Anthropology from University of British Columbia, and a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix.
Working in higher education for 21 years, Ms. Bjorgan has held positions in student advising, policy and project management, adjunct faculty, registrar, and compliance. Currently, she works as the Dean of Enrollment Management at Black Hawk College overseeing a division of student services. Her areas of expertise are in change management and encouraging continuous improvement.
Julie Gelaude, MOL, Director, Business Training Center at Black Hawk College
Julie Gelaude holds a Master’s of Leadership from St. Ambrose University and a Bachelor’s in Marketing from Augustana College.
Ms. Gelaude has worked in higher education doing customized contract training and program development for the workforce at Black Hawk College for 22 years. She also serves on the Board of the Black Hawk College Foundation—QC, Quad Cities Missing Person’s Network (QCMPN) and Her2o International. She is driven to share the value of education and being a lifelong learner.
