Speech Instructor- Full-time Faculty-Tenure Track

General Information & Responsibilities

Black Hawk College invites applications for a full-time Speech faculty opening, with responsibilities include teaching, advising, department and college service, and professional development. The successful candidate will teach five (5) courses per regular semester that could include in-person courses at either of two campuses (Moline, IL and Galva, IL), asynchronous or synchronous on-line courses, and/or dual-credit classes. This position would start with the fall semester in August 2025.

  • Teach a full-time load of undergraduate courses in Speech
  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective classroom and online instruction using a variety of pedagogical methods.
  • Design and implement effective assessment strategies to measure student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit timely grades.
  • Advise and mentor students in academic and professional development.
  • Serve on department, division, and college committees.
  • Participate in college-wide events and initiatives.
  • Advise student clubs and organizations related to communication.

 

Education & Experience

Master’s degree in speech communication, speech studies, or related field required. At least 2-3 years of experience in teaching public speaking at a community college and knowledge of Canvas LMS preferred. Must possess demonstrated oral English proficiency for classroom instruction.

This position is open until filled. Minimum starting salary for full-time faculty for the 2025-2026 academic year is $50,036. Full-time faculty have a base contract of 9 months and are paid over 12 months per year. Base load is based on 30 equated hours per academic year.
