GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, organize, implement, and conduct the maintenance at Commission facilities safely to maximize efficiency in operations. The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for rolling and stationary operational equipment as well as site and building maintenance. Responsible for performing basic equipment diagnosis for all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Maintains Commission equipment in safe and operational condition. Maintain required service and repair records.
2. Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical suspension, brake, and air systems on heavy equipment diesel machinery such as trash compactors, bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders, articulated haul trucks, farm tractors, semi-tractor/trailers, and roll-off trucks.
3. In coordination with the Facility Supervisor, Shift Supervisor or and/or facility Manager, arranges for service from qualified service providers.
4. Operation of equipment to move material throughout Commission facilities.
5. Educates staff by providing training on the Commission’s preventative maintenance program.
6. Conduct preventative maintenance and normal building and site maintenance.
7. Repairs and performs maintenance on conveyor belts, such as replacing rollers, pulleys, and bearings.
8. Performs screen maintenance such as removing and maintenance on spindles, sprockets, and chain drives.
9. Repairs and performs maintenance on heavy equipment such as hoses, pumps, cylinders, belts, steering components, brakes, fuel systems, and wheel bearings.
10. Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, sensors, switches, and control modules.
11. Repairs and performs maintenance on small engine equipment such as mowers, trimmers, snow blowers, light plants, water pumps, generators, and welders.
12. Maintains organization of shop tools and parts inventories.
13. Adheres to facility cleanliness, 5S organizational systems, and facility standard work procedures while maintaining a vision for continuous improvement.
14. Perform other job-related duties as needed and/or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent AND the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job.
- Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience, troubleshooting, and repairing various types of equipment, including heavy equipment, diesel machinery, and industrial rolling stock.
- Extensive knowledge in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on vehicles and machinery.
- Welding and fabrication experience required
Knowledge of:
- Work policies, procedures, operations, and health and safety plans.
- Environmental Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) policy and what it means to the Commission. Understands how the position and job responsibilities impact the environment and what can be done to improve them. Recommends improvements to the EMS Core Team or Commission Management in cases where the authority does not reside within this position to make the improvements.
Essential Skills:
- Ability and experience using various hand and power tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure, calipers, micrometer, multi-meter, compression gauges, diagnostic devices, and other special-purpose equipment to properly diagnose and repair equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electric, diesel, and fuel-powered motors. Ability to bypass, diagnose, and change out VFDs, motor starters, and PLC cards. Knowledge of when to check and replace fuses.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals.
- Ability to utilize maintenance management software and project planning tools to effectively coordinate and schedule preventative and equipment maintenance activities, helping the team stay organized, on task, and aligned with project timelines.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to conduct training and provide instruction in equipment operation and plant safety.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, managers, employees, clients, customers, government representatives, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees and customers to deliver instructions and resolve issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and the general public.
- Ability to coordinate own actions with those of other workers/operators on a busy site.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Certification & License Requirements:
- Successful completion of forklift certification (when required)
- Preferred certification in Red Cross CPR and safety training.
- Obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and possess a satisfactory driving record.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Class A and/or B Commercial driver’s license (when required).
- Must pass post-offer physical and background check.
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk and hear, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally required to sit and smell or taste.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Must follow Commission safety protocols for lifting in excess of 100 pounds, including but not limited to team lifting techniques.
- Regularly required to utilize personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hat, and safety shoes. Must frequently utilize personal protection equipment such as hearing protection and gloves. Must occasionally utilize personal protective equipment such as an apron, protective clothing, and a respirator.
- Requires good spatial perception and manual dexterity.
Working Environment:
- Frequently required to perform work outdoors year-round with exposure to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
- Routine exposure to vibration and loud background noise.
- Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; work in high, precarious places; risk of electric shock; and extreme heat (non-weather).
- Occasional non-regular work hours, which may include on-call shifts for breakdowns and weekends. Work hours may be on rotation to meet the operational needs of the facility.
