Surgical Tech Program Director/ Clinical Coordinator and Instructor

General Information & Responsibilities

Black Hawk College seeks a full-time Surgical Tech Program Director/Clinical Coordinator to teach classes in and manage the Surgical Technology Program. This is an in-person position at our Quad Cities Campus in Moline, IL that will include supervising clinical rotations. Start date: May 1, 2025

Description of Duties

The Program Director for the Surgical Technology Program is responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination, supervision and evaluation of all instruction and related program management activities including clinical coordination. As a full -time faculty the Program Director is also expected to encourage learning by preparing appropriate syllabi; developing lectures, discussions, and other presentations or activities to enhance the students educational experience; develop and execute appropriate methods of evaluating students’ performance; develop, secure, and maintain the equipment and other instructional materials essential to the presentation of the classroom material

Education & Experience

The Program Director must:

1) Possess a minimum of an Associate Degree that includes a concentration in surgical technology
2) Have documented education or experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program
planning
3) Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized
programmatic accreditation agency
4) Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited
by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
5) Have a minimum total of five years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in
surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
6) Demonstrates ability to communication effectively, both orally and in writing, with faculty, staff and students
7) Demonstrate ability to organize workload, accurate record keeping, and follow through on assignments
8) Ability to adapt to and encourage positive change
9) Oral English proficiency for classroom instruction is required
10) The Program Director should possess experience/training as an educator and should pursue ongoing formal training 
 designed to maintain and upgrade his/her professional, instructional, and administrative capabilities.
11) The Program Director should participate in an ARC/STSA sponsored accreditation workshop at least once every five 
years.
