Job Description

 

This position is very part-time on an "as needed" basis, working from our newly built Muscatine location.

 

The ideal candidate will instruct and train bus drivers in the safe and proper operation of buses according to State, Federal, and District regulations and standards; and to coordinate training needs of drivers.Employees in this classification train, direct, and supervise the work of others during training operations. This job class exercises responsibility for ensuring that bus drivers are properly trained and licensed in the safe and efficient operation of buses.

Required Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) EndorsementsA valid CDL with the necessary endorsements to drive buses is essential.The trainer should have a clean driving record and several years of professional driving experience, ideally with buses.2. Must have Iowa STOP course and BOTL (Busing on the Lookout) CertificationMust have Bus Driver STOP and BOTL Training, which includes safety protocols, student management, and defensive driving techniques.3. Experience and Driving RecordAt least 2-4 years of professional driving experience with passenger vehicles, particularly School buses.A clean driving record with no major violations, such as DUIs or excessive speeding.4. Knowledge of Safety and Compliance StandardsTrainers should be well-versed in Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), state-specific rules, and school district guidelines and Entry Level Driver Requirements for bus drivers.

Physical Demands

 

Sitting for extended periods of time when operating a transportation vehicle. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Reaching, pulling and pushing to open bus doors. Lifting moderately heavy objects.

 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Ability to effectively train, evaluate, and supervise the driving ability of others according to established criteria

• Ability to organize and instruct classes composed of new applicants and qualified bus drivers

• Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions independently

• Ability to drive and operate a bus safely and efficiently

• Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving

• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form

• Ability to effectively interpret and apply State, Federal, and District regulations, codes, and requirements associated with the transport of bus riders

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job

• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
