Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: This is a 10 month appointment, with an expected start date of March 18, 2024.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide individual mental health counseling services via time-limited individual, crisis and group modalities that support emotional and academic development of all students.
• Provide alcohol and other drug related services including DUI services, prevention education, evaluation, treatment and aftercare services.
• Provide educational/prevention programming during regular office hours and on occasion after hours.
• Document sessions accurately in Electronic Health Record system in accordance with legal and ethical standards and established University Counseling Center and AODRC policy.
• Participate in committee work (departmental, and/or university wide) and special projects as needed.
• Maintain a current knowledge base and Illinois clinical license through continuing education.
• Provide consultation services for faculty, staff, parents, students, and others.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's or higher degree in Counseling, Psychology or Clinical Social Work.
• Applicants will acquire an LCP or LSW within three months of employment or will already be licensed through the state. (Applicants who do not have LCSW or LCPC will be provided weekly clinical supervision with the expectation they are qualified and sit for their National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Exam or National Licensed Clinical Social Work Exam within three years post-employment).
• Ability to demonstrate clinical and therapeutic skills and to foster positive therapeutic relationships with a diverse population of students.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical theories, diagnoses, interventions, and referral services both on campus and local community providers.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with providing substance abuse prevention, evaluation and treatment services.
• Experience working with State of Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery
• Experience in a University Counseling Center
• Experience providing group counseling
• Multicultural competence, including but not limited to, experience and expertise in working with students of color, students from lower income backgrounds, first generation students, and LGBTQ students.
• An understanding of the social, developmental, and psychological issues and challenges faced by diverse populations of students within a higher education setting.
• Experience with public speaking.
