Job Description:

Western Illinois University (WIU) seeks a visionary and experienced early childhood educator to serve as the inaugural Director of the Quad Cities Spanish Bilingual Early Learning and Family Empowerment Lab Site to provide day-to-day supervision, instructional coaching, and planning and implementing of all operational aspects of the lab site including the budget and all coordinating grants and ensuring all compliance and instructional tasks are completed for a high quality early care and education site. The position will assist with Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity (ECACE) support for Quad Cities workforce members including serving as the onsite mentor teacher for necessary observational/field hours, serving as a community liaison and committee attendee for the Quad Cities area early childhood community, as well as a partner to the WIU Center for Best Practices in Early Childhood Education. The position reports to the Director of the School of Education and serves to help shape the Lab Site's strategic considerations on fundraising and securing philanthropic support, as well as ensuring that diverse family engagement is implemented regularly.

Accessible and collaborative, the Director will recognize, value, and use team approaches and philosophy; be able to listen, acknowledge, and encourage students through the process of attending higher education, while also serving as an incumbent worker; and possess an understanding of the overall early care and education system as well as Gateways and the new Illinois Division of Early Childhood. They must have the ability to work within a shared leadership structure and be self-driven and be able to adhere to project deadlines

APPOINTMENT: June 1, 2024 or negotiated start date.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with Illinois Professional Educator License or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with Illinois Professional Educator License and five years of experience as a Director in an Early Childhood lab site;
• Three or more years working as a Gateways Level 5 or PEL qualified early childhood teacher (Birth-Grade 2) in a linguistically diverse school or community-based setting;
• Spanish Bilingual Fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and listening;
• Understanding of Illinois' birth to three and three-five early childhood systems;
• Familiarity with the ECACE scholarship and current legislation evolving that supports the Early Childhood Workforce Pipeline;
• Basic understanding of the Gateways system and credentials;
• Experience working with community and family organizations;
• Ability to organize multiple-tasks and be a self-motivated and independently efficient worker;
• Possess excellent verbal, written, and digitally managed communication skills, as well as interpersonal communication skills using a trauma informed and culturally/linguistically responsive approach;
• Public speaking/presentation experience, including comfort with virtual presentation platforms;
• Possess basic technology skills including use of all GoogleSuite tools;
• Ability to use technology to provide optimal mentoring services;
• Possess ability to complete appropriate documentation and operational duties in a comprehensive and timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as a lead teacher or leadership role within a school or community organization/non-profit.
