Job Description |
Provides leadership and oversight in the areas of: Advising, Student Housing, and Retention/ Student Success. Works closely with staff and faculty to support students’ goal attainment. Ensures compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Required Qualifications |
Bachelor’s degree, supervisory experience and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population as well as the entire campus community is required. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications |
Master’s degree preferred. Background in advising, student housing, student engagement or related area in a community college setting preferred.

Physical Demands |
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities |
Advising:
1. Provide leadership to the advising professionals on campus.
2. Represent all programs and majors offered by Muscatine Community College and Eastern Iowa Community Colleges.
3. Assist an assigned case load of students with course selection, creation of academic plans, registration process and facilitating transfer of students to four-year colleges/ universities,
4. Appointed as the campus Designated School Official for international students assisting with creation of academic plans, registration, on-campus living, and compliance with visa regulations.
5. Coordinate and evaluate new student orientation sessions.
6. Coordinate advising for specific career and technical programs and apprentices. Coordinate and communicate curriculum requirements updates with colleagues.
7. Provide proactive referrals to college, district, and community service agencies as appropriate.
8. Direct and manage cases referred by faculty for retention purposes with the E-Retention system.
9. Collaborate in planning and executing enrollment, retention and engagement events.
Residential Life:
10. Assist in managing the Colleges’ housing operations; assist with the fiscal management for department budget; supervise professional staff, and ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, standards, and laws.
11. Assist in evaluating and assessing College’s housing occupancy, retention, and projection trends; coordinate marketing and recruiting efforts for on-campus housing.
12. Assist in overseeing the residential facilities to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy living environment and supervise crisis and risk management of after-hours emergencies within the facilities. This will include responsibility for handling Housing Emergency phone when other staff is not available.
13. Manage all housing related student conduct issues.
14. Assist in working collaboratively with campus Facilities staff to ensure proper deferred maintenance and routine maintenance of the residence hall and maintain a comprehensive inventory of all furniture, equipment and supplies located in housing facilities.
15. Assist in coordinating housing for special summer programs.
16. To foster a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the District; lead by example; actively participate in and support District-wide collaborative processes; encourage professional excellence among the staff and promote an organizational culture of customer service, innovation, and quality.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Development.
