Job Description

 

Supports and facilitates the successful transition of students with disabilities to credit and continuing education programs at Eastern Iowa Community College District (EICC). Acts as a liaison between the district and the Area Education Agency (AEA), and high school special education teams. Provides comprehensive academic advising, accommodation coordination, and retention support to promote student success, persistence, and completion.

 

This position is a shortened staff contract that includes 217 days (10 months) of service.

 

Required Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree required, with emphasis in education, special education, vocational education or related field. Experience working with individuals with disabilities required. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Working knowledge of various mental and physical disabilities and appropriate transition and learning strategies is also required.

 

Ability to travel routinely to all EICC locations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Familiarity with ADA, Section 504, and IEP processes and regulations is preferred

 

Physical Demands

 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

 

1. Act as liaison for faculty and staff, students, special education teachers, and the K-12 Individual Educational Program (IEP) team.2. Provide program information to school districts to ensure students are identified and IEPs are developed in accordance with student transition needs.3. Advise students on academic pathways and develop individualized success plans.4. Develop and maintain annual reports to internal and external program participants in compliance with institutional and legal requirements.5. Collaborate with high school IEP teachers in developing annual goals for students participating in ACCESS. Provide weekly reports to high school IEP teachers.6. Meets regularly with ACCESS students to assess accommodation needs, provide support, and intervene when academic challenges arise.7. Participate in IEP meetings for prospective and current students; assist teams in determining program eligibility.8. Committed to providing quality service that meets or exceeds the expectations of internal and external customers.9. Serve as a member of the EICC Disability Services team to support the development of policies and procedures consistent with institutional, state, and federal guidelines (including ADA and Section 504).10. Perform other duties as assigned.
